Thermodynamics and anomalous slowing down of molecular structure relaxation in a flat channel

E. V. Kholopov

Abstract: A simple model of spherical molecules in a flat channel manifests in transparent terms of packing all the main features of the thermodynamics and kinetics of one-dimensional systems unstable with respect to the occurrence of a superperiod. The phonon spectrum and the vibrational contribution to the low-temperature thermodynamics associated with the presence of domain walls are calculated. The relaxation of the domain wall density is calculated for arbitrary initial deviation from the equilibrium value. An exponential slowing down of the relaxation with decreasing temperature is predicted. The high-temperature thermodynamics is calculated and extrapolation of the obtained results to low temperatures demonstrates the process of appearance of the superperiod.
