The conference is a celebration of the 85th birthday of the distinguished mathematician and Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Professor Vladimir Pertovich Platonov. During the course of his research career, which has spanned over 60 years, V.P. Platonov has made fundamental contributions to such areas of mathematics as topological and linear groups, the study of structural, geometric, and arithmetic properties of algebraic groups, local-global principles in algebra and number theory, analysis of torsion points on abelian varieties, and others. The scientific program of the conference features talks by leading experts on a broad range of topics related to the research interests of V.P. Platonov. The conference is hosted by the Steklov Mathematical Institute of RAS, where V.P. Platonov continues to work as Principal Research Fellow in the Department of Geometry and Topology.
