Mathematics and the “dark matter” mystery

One of the more intriguing scientific puzzles over the last 35 years has to do with the mystery of dark matter. This is where the known mass in a galaxy is not sufficient to keep the galaxy from dissipating. But, despite significant efforts, the needed mass, the dark matter, has not been found! As described during this lecture, a crucial part of this scientific puzzle has nothing to do with astronomy; it is strictly a mathematical issue. Surprising new conclusions about this concern arise from the mathematics: some of which are described in this talk.
