Parity in knot theory

I. M. Nikonov

Lomonosov Moscow State University, Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics

Abstract: A parity is a rule to assign labels to the crossings of knot diagrams in a way compatible with Reidemeister moves. Parity allows to strengthen knot invariants, to prove minimality theorem and to construct (counter)examples. We plan to review the parity theory and present some speaker’s results on the topic.
