Blaise Pascal: Between Science and God. To the 400th anniversary of the birth

G. M. Polotovsky

Abstract: On the many-sided contribution of Blaise Pascal to the development of mathematics during the scientific revolution of the 17th century: to projective geometry (along with the contribution of Gerard Desargues), to the calculation of numbers and combinatorics, to the calculation of probabilities (together with Pierre Fermat), to mathematical analysis, to the development of computer technology, will be our talk. The story is against the background of the biography of B. Pascal: many of the points that motivated the choice based on his mathematical research. It will also talk about the inventions of Blaise Pascal, included in our daily practice, but without remembering the name of the inventor.
The duration of the lecture is 90 minutes.
