Algebraic group actions and rational singularities

The talk is aimed to discuss the Kraft–Procesi problem about rationality of singularities of all normal affine orbit closures of connected reductive algebraic groups. A counterexample is given, and the affirmative answer for spherical orbit closures is obtained.
