An interval representation of utility

Abstract: Conditions are discussed under which interval ranking can be represented on a set of arbitrary cardinality. The von Neumann–Morgenstern theorem on linear utility is extended. Conditions are formulated that are imposed on the preference relation in the set of probabilistic networks and are necessary and sufficient for representation of this relation as two linear utility functions.
