A condition for effectiveness of index-sequential data organization

The paper is concerned with design of speed-optimal chief index of collection of data organized by the index-sequential method. A combinatorial model of the index structure is designed in the metrics of algorithms for associative access of data. Computer experiment-verified values of parameters are established for the structure to be synthetized. Practical applicability of the results is insured by file control tools available to the user.
