Signature analyzing automata

Hewlett — Packard signature analyzers are shown to be optimal in testing singleoutput circuits. Sufficient conditions which easily implementable in actual circuits are obtained for multi-input optimal analyzers. Some of these detect all single errors. The signature analyzers of this set remain optimal in various models of input sequence contamination.
