Approximate design of optimal control

Abstract: An approach to approximate solution of the problem of optimal control is proposed which is based on approximation of functions of many variables by a sum of products of functions of one variable. Aniterative procedure for improvement of such approximations is developed that is analogous to the conventional gradient method of improving the control programs.
