The use of the statistical equivalence criterion in the piecewise approximation problem

The paper is concerned with piecewise approximation of an unknown response of a plant. Much use is made of automatic classification algorithm for design of an «interim» model; then the model is expanded and readjusted with the use of the criterion of statistical indistinguishability of regression lines incorporated in the «interim» model.
