Abstract: The effect of the modes of heat treatment on phase composition, structure and mechanical properties of two maraging steels was researched. The ways of increasing toughness characteristics and reducing of cold-shortness threshold due to the formation austenite of special morphology in the martensitic structure of steels are shown.

Keywords: maraging steels, heat treatment, phase transformations, retained and reverted austenite, nanostructure, impact (striking) toughness, cold-shortness threshold, electro-slag remelting (ESR), vacuum arc remelting (VAR).
