Abstract: The kinetics of formation of the print at the nano- and microindentation wide range of materials (ionic and covalent crystals, metals, ceramics, polymers) are investigated. The energy and the activation characteristics of the formation of the print are determined and dominant micromechanisms mass transfer wich provide plastic deformation at different stages of the print are suggested. The results of studies of the effect of the scale factor on the criteria of correct determination of dynamic fracture toughness of micro and nanoindentation using different types of indentors (Vickers, Berkovich and Bierbaum). The studies were set intervals critical load and indentation depth at which each type of indenter the criterion of correct dimensioning of cracking and determined numerical values characterizing the fracture toughness of the material.

Keywords: nano-and microindentation; micromechanisms of plasticity; point defects; crowdions; viscosity of destruction; cracking; micro- and nanoindentation; failure criteria.
