Abstract: A diffractive optical element based on a nonlinear-optical ferroelectric single crystal has been proposed, synthesized, and experimentally characterized. The element allows fast modulation of transverse modes of a Gaussian laser beam.

Keywords: electro-optical modulator, ferroelectric, lithium niobate, domain structure, transverse mode content.
