Abstract: Experimental and analytical studies were performed of the deformation and failure of cavities produced for condensed gas storage at depths of 920–1100 m in a salt massif by 15 nuclear explosions. From the results of the studies a method is proposed to preserve the volume of the cavities after explosion by producing a back pressure in them.

Keywords: underground cavities, nuclear explosion.
