Abstract: Combustion of micron-sized magnesium dust particles with spatially discrete sources is studied numerically. The flame propagation speed for various dust concentrations and different particle diameters is estimated. Experimental results for two different burning times are compared. The minimum ignition energy as a function of dust concentration for different particle sizes is studied. The results show good agreement with experimental data.

Keywords: magnesium dust cloud, heterogeneous combustion, flame propagation, burning time, minimum ignition energy.
