Abstract:
A number of problems of the mechanical equilibrium of specimens of various shapes are analyzed. It is shown that coupled problems of heating and initiation of a chemical reaction in a finite body reduce to an ordinary problem of ignition theory that includes new parameters and an additional integral source of heat in the thermal-conductivity equation. Solution of the problem of ignition of a plane layer of finite thickness shows that the character of fixing of the specimen surfaces can have a significant effect on the heating and reaction characteristics in the heated layer.
