Abstract: The heat-and mass-transfer processes and properties of the intumescent fire-retardant compositions OVR-1, 336-11-88, and SGK-1 are studied. The mass loss and expansion ratio of the materials are determined experimentally as functions of temperature. Mechanisms of the fire-retardant effect of these materials are analyzed. A new mathematical model is proposed that permits predicting the state of protected structures under thermal loads typical of fire conditions. A comparison shows good agreement between the numerical-calculation results and data of fire tests.
