Abstract:
A numerical study of experimental results on deflagration-to-detonation transition for pressed PETN of low porosity has been carried out. The numerical-simulation technique used is given. Based on the calculated results and comparisons with the experimental data, a two-stage scheme of the process is suggested which assumes transition to detonation with conservation of a linear pressure-burning rate relationship typical of the majority of explosives. A number of conclusions were drawn for each stage. Qualitative agreement between the experimental results and the one-dimensional calculations is obtained.
