Abstract: The results of a study of the structural, magnetic and magnetocaloric properties of Gd-based microparticles obtained by ball milling of rapidly quenched gadolinium ribbons are presented. Analysis of the structural data revealed the presence of gadolinium oxide and hydride phases. Based on the measurement of magnetic isotherms, a sufficiently high magnetocaloric effect was found at cryogenic temperatures.

Keywords: gadolinium powder, ball milling, structure, magnetocaloric effect, cryogenic temperatures.
