Abstract: The structure, morphology, IR spectra, as well as luminescence spectra and luminescence excitation spectra of europium-doped borates formed during the interaction of lanthanum and indium oxides with a potassium tetraborate melt at 970$^\circ$C have been studied. With an increase in the In$^{3+}$ concentration in the batch, a sequential change of the following structural states is observed: single-phase LaBO$_3$ aragonite, LaBO$_3$ aragonite + InBO$_3$ calcite, single-phase InBO$_3$ calcite. The correspondence between the structure and spectral characteristics of these compounds has been established. It is shown that indium and lanthanum orthoborates do not form joint solid solutions.

Keywords: rare earth orthoborates, crystal structure, X-ray diffraction analysis, IR spectroscopy, luminescence spectra.
