Melting of nanoscale layered structures in the generalized Pietronero–Tosatti model

Melting (onset of thermal instability) of free-standing and epitaxial films of finite thickness and a semi-infinite crystal has been considered within the modified Pietronero–Tosatti model. The melting temperatures and root-mean-square displacements of individual layers have been determined.
