Abstract: Based on the Love–Kirchhoff approach, the flexoelectric effect in a thin plate of a ferroelectric with cubic symmetry is studied. The electric and elastic fields in the ferroelectric are described within the framework of the Landau–Ginzburg thermodynamic potential. The influence of inhomogeneity of the polarization distribution in the plate is taken into account. The obtained values for the plate bending caused by applying the electric field make it possible to calculate the dependence of changes in entropy on temperature in plates of barium titanate and strontium titanate (the flexocaloric effect).

Keywords: ferroelectrics, thin plate, flexocaloric effect, flexoelectric effect, multicaloric effect, elastic displacement.
