Abstract: A mechanism of decrease in the elastic (latent) energy of a solid containing disclination defects by introducing multi-disclination configurations of opposite sign has been considered. The relation of the proposed model with relaxation modifications of microcrystals with pentagonal symmetry, as well as with the structure of two-dimensional carbon films, has been discussed. An approach to the prediction of new carbon structures inherently containing multi-disclination configurations with screening has been demonstrated.
