Abstract: The paper considers the methodological and applied aspects of document modeling, a dialect of semantic modeling based on the metaphor of a document as the basic information structure. Since document modeling is designed for a wide range of model developers, the cognitive and perceptual aspects of using the approach are considered. Empirical pragmatics issues are also assessed, the features of document modeling are analyzed, which distinguish it among other approaches focused on business process management. The main application areas in which document modeling can be useful are evaluated. The paper concludes with a review of bSystem, a cloud-based document model management platform that implements the document modeling approach.

Keywords: document modeling, executable model, business process, bSystem.
