Auxiliary amplifier for natural intelligence – Semen Korsakov's inventions

Abstract: Semen Korsakov (1787 – 1853) – Russian nobleman, an inventor who was involved with an early version of information technology and artificial intelligence pioneer. In the first half of the XIX century Korsakov proposed the concept of artificial intelligence as an “auxiliary amplifier for natural intelligence” through the using of scientific methods and special devices. In 1832 he presented a series of five “intellectual machines” – the mechanical prototypes of the search engines and expert systems. Korsakov was reputedly the first to use the punch cards for information storage and processing.
