Abstract: The results of experimental, numerical and theoretical investigations of the properties of supersonic flows about blunt bodies in the presence of electric discharge (in front of the body) are given. The experimental parameters of longitudinally transverse discharge and its influence on the grag force are described in detail. The results of numerical simulation of supersonic flow around a blunt body (cylinder-hemisphere) are presented. The processes of vibrational energy excitation in oxygen and nitrogen and vibration-translation transfer were considered also. The theoretical estimates for the part of vibration excitation of total injecting energy are presented. There was obtained good agreement between numerical data and experiment for several parameters.
