Abstract: The system of mathematical models for studying trends in higher education of Russia is proposed. The models qualitatively show consequences of the present profound reforms in this field. The developed models and main results are reviewed. The makro and mikro-model of education are considered in more details. The former describes the influence of education and science on the future of the society considered at macroeconomic level. The latter describes the influence of education policy, initial student's qualification, and his personal qualities on the dynamics of learning and professional activity. The results of modelling show that survival of higher education in Russia requires serious changes of state polisy in this field and in particular the increase of financial support.
