Destabilizing role of diffusion

A. M. Molchanov

Abstract: We discuss a model of the flow-through chemical reactor in which a reaction with an “autocatalytic” stage takes place. It is shown that diffusion can cause the “premature” failure of the system in the oscillatory regime. This is facilitated by the relatively rapid diffusion of the reaction “substrate” compared to the diffusion of the “enzyme-substrate” complex.
