Nobel laureate S. Chandrasekhar: to the 65th anniversary of the first monograph on the transfer of radiant energy (Dedicated to 65th anniversary of Keldysh Institute of Applied Mathematics and the memory of Professor E.S. Kuznetsov, the founder of the national scientific school and the Creator of the Department «Kinetic equations»)

T. A. Sushkevich

Abstract: The publication deals with the Nobel Prize in Physics, received by S. Chandrasekhar 35 years ago, on December 10, 1983, the first in the world science monograph on the theory of radiation and radiant energy transfer, physicists-theorists, N. Bohr and domestic achievements. 65 years ago, in 1953, under the editorship of E.S. Kuznetsov, the monograph was published in the USSR and became a reference book for several generations of researchers. The work is dedicated to the memory of E.S. Kuznetsov (13.03.1901–17.02.1966) — the founder in Keldysh Institute in 1955 the department «Kinetic Equations» and M.V. Maslennikov (26.04.1931–15.08.2018) — head of the department in 1966-2008. E.S. Kuznetsov in the USSR and S. Chandrasekhar in the USA are the founders of scientific schools on the theory and methods of mathematical modeling of the transfer of radiation and radiant energy in natural environments.

Keywords: radiation transfer, radiant energy, first monograph, E.S. Kuznetsov, S. Chandrasekhar, N. Bor, physicists-theorists.
