Abstract: Light propagation visualization as an effective tool for lighting analysis and optical system simulation is discussed in the paper. The optical systems consist of lenses and elements with surface and volume light scattering. The notion of light propagation criteria is introduced. The trajectories of light rays satisfying to the criteria are visualized. The light visualization mechanism is illustrated basing on practical examples where it allows to solve complex optical simulation projects effectively. The considered practical optical systems are both lens systems and lighting guide panels and devices.

Keywords: ray tracing, ray visualization, lighting simulation, optical system simulation, surface scattering, volume scattering.
