Abstract: The paper deals with the problem of long-term preservation of the original authenticity of information in databases and the possibilities of analyzing information over long periods of time. Over time, the terminological systems of databases are regularly updated and, as a result, the conceptual apparatus for describing such data may change. In order to reduce the likelihood of possible errors due to changes in terminology and interpretation of data in different periods of time, it is necessary to take into account changes in the state of terminology systems (metadata). A model for accounting for changes in metadata is proposed, implemented in the radioecological database for the areas of location of radioactive waste disposal facilities, disposal and conservation sites for special radioactive waste.

Keywords: metadata, long-term data retention, metadata events.
