Some properties of almost abelian Lie algebras

Finite-dimensional Lie algebras, having an abelian ideal of codimension 1, are studied. Some of their properties are proved, including those related to the structure of the space of all Lie algebras. The automorphism groups of such Lie algebras are also calculated.
