Abstract: Enzymatic activity (invertase, phosphatase, catalase) in the soils of the steppe zone from the Terskiy variant of vertical zonation in Kabardin-Balkaria is determined. Among the soils under study, meadowychernozem calcareous soil has maximum biological activity. Correlated changes in activity of enzymes between each other, and with humus contents are revealed.

Keywords: Central Caucasus, Kabardin-Balkaria, soil enzymatic activity.
