Interaction of plasma jets and droplets in the cathode region of a vacuum arc

Abstract: The interaction of liquid-metal droplets with plasma jets in the cathode region of a vacuum arc is considered in the context of an ecton model. It is shown that heating of a droplet in the cathode spot region can initiate the droplet transition to the plasma state.
