Abstract: The absorption of slow K$^-$ mesons in nuclear emulsion through the mesonic and nonmesonic channels has been measured. It has been shown that K$^-$ mesons are absorbed in the surface (diffuse) layer of a nucleus. The results are in qualitative agreement with theoretical calculations involving the mesonic and nonmesonic potentials of the absorption of kaons by light and heavy nuclei of nuclear emulsion.
