Abstract: The surface part of electronic energy in small metal or semiconductor particles contains a contribution due to the presence of crystallite edges and vertices. In the approximation of quadratic electron spectrum, the edge contribution is calculated as a function of the dihedral angle of the edge and its orientation to the axes of the effective mass tensor.
