Abstract: The growth of one-dimensional atomic chains along the vicinal surface has been studied by the kinetic Monte Carlo method. It has been shown that their growth is determined exclusively by kinetic parameters such as the temperature, flux of deposited atoms, and degree of coating rather than by the binding energy and quantum effects. Conditions under which chains with “magic lengths” appear have been determined.
