Abstract: A modified Born approximation suitable for the problem of electromagnetic wave scattering by a dielectric body is constructed. A system of integral equations including exact boundary conditions at the surface is derived. It is shown that a modified series converges to the known analytical solution for the problem of a wave incident normally on a cylinder. The reason for the inapplicability of the quantum-mechanical Born approximation in optics is discussed.
