Abstract: To describe a quantum phase transition in a dimerized antiferromagnet, the formalism of the Landau theory of phase transitions has been applied. The energy of the ground state is minimized by varying the parameter of the mixing of the wavefunctions with different multiplicities. The critical behavior of the parameter of the wavefunction is responsible for the critical behavior of the observables.
