The compensation of large ion energy spread by multigap grid reflectors of time-of-flight mass spectrometers: cases of catastrophes A$_{4}$, A$_{5}$, A$_{6}$ and A$_{7}$
Abstract:
The problem of compensation of the initial energy spread of ions by multigap reflectors of time-of-flight mass spectrometers with grids is considered. Catastrophe cases A$_{4}$, A$_{5}$, A$_{6}$, A$_{7}$ with the simplest potential distributions are discussed. It is shown that multi-gap reflectors whose time-of-flight functions are described by A$_{4}$, A$_{5}$, A$_{6}$, A$_{7}$ catastrophe compensate for much larger ion energy spreads then that for A$_2$ and A$_3$ cases. The results obtained can be used in the design process of gridless reflectors with large initial energy spread of ions.
