Abstract: The friction coefficient and the wear of a hypereutectic aluminum alloy with 15 wt.% silicon and a supermodified eutectic structure without primary silicon crystals, obtained by directional crystallization at a solidification rate of 1 mm/s, are studied. It is shown that this alloy, which has high strength and ductility, has a lower friction coefficient and a higher wear resistance than the alloy with 20 wt.% silicon. After modification with strontium, its tribological properties are superior to those of the hypereutectic commercial alloy.

Keywords: microstructure and mechanical properties, friction and wear.
