Abstract:
Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics (BINP) is carrying out work with SKIF synchrotron of fourth generation. Synchrotron buildings are reared now in the ground of Koltcovo. In BINP there is the stand for testing of first part of SKIF injector (preinjector) that includes gridded thermionic cathode radiofrequency (RF) gun which is applying for the first time in world practice. The main goal of the pre-injector is the forming of short electron bunches with low energy spread and the accelerating up to relativistic energies. In the article the preinjector structure, principle of operation and tuning are described. Specific features related with RF gun applying are checked. Numerically calculated and measured beam characteristics in the preinjector are analyzed. Methods of preinjector characteristic calibration and tuning are discussed.
