Abstract: Receivers based on the superconductor–insulator–superconductor (SIS) tunnel junction are the most sensitive heterodyne systems for detecting submm and mm-band waves. In this work, we present numerical simulation results and preliminary SIS mixer designs at 345 GHz. The sensitivity of the developed designs to major technological deviations is evaluated. The developed mixer has a high potential to be used on board of the “Millimetron” space observatory as part of an instrument for observations in the Earth-to-space radio-interferometer mode.

Keywords: superconductor devices, superconductor–insulator–superconductor tunneling transition, sub-THz band receiver systems.
