Abstract: In November 27, 2012, the Ploskii Tolbachik volcano activated. A channel in the form of a giant crack arose on the flank of the volcano, from which about 1200 tons of lava per second were effused. In this paper, a channel through which a magma reached the surface is simulated by a narrow rectangular hole. With the problem thus stated, the solution of the Navier–Stokes equation yields a formula for the lava inflow. Results for the lava inflow per second obtained with this formula are in satisfactory agreement with full-scale observations.
