Oscillations of ions in a superposition of linear high-frequency

Abstract: The concept of pseudopotential is used to study the ion trajectories in a superposition of uniform static and linear high-frequency electric fields. An ion-optical system is developed to generate a combination of electric fields with different spatial and temporal distributions of potentials. It is demonstrated that such systems can be used as ion traps with spatial confinement in a single quadrant or half plane in the Fouriertransform mass-spectrometers.
