Abstract: A switchable fluorescence system has been prepared based on an eosin Y fluorophore and a photochromic diarylethene. The fluorescence emission was switched between the ‘on’ and ‘off’ states via photochromic isomerization. Fluorescence was quenched due to energy transfer from the excited eosin Y to the closed form of diarylethene.
