Abstract: A new class of structures, in which vacancies or other point defects of the crystal lattice occupy the sites of two different superstructures simultaneously, is presented using atomic vacancy ordering in titanium monoxide. One of the superstructures is that of the low temperature phase and the other one is additional superstructure yielding an increase in the configurational entropy of ordered state at high temperatures.
