Novel covalently linked pyrene–aryl azide systems: synthesis of 1-(4-azidobenzoyloxy)pyrene

Abstract: Lead tetraacetate oxidation of pyrene followed by hydrolysis affords 1-hydroxypyrene whose esterification with 4-azidobenzoic acid gives a new bifunctional luminophore characterized by UV and luminescence spectroscopy.
