Abstract: First experimental results of a chemical investigation of element 113 independently confirm the synthesis of the new elements 115 and 113 in the nuclear fusion reaction of 48Ca + 243Am and indicate a chemical behaviour resembling a species with a high volatility, a weak interaction with inert surfaces and an enhanced reactivity towards gold surfaces.
